
Elder Care Manager Certification
Although certification is a personal choice that each professional makes based upon their professional beliefs, Elder Care Managers should remain up-to-date with scientific, cultural, political, legal and social changes in the areas of gerontology. It is incumbent upon Elder Care Managers to continually take part in educational programs that will enable him/her to provide the highest quality care management.
It is for this reason the International Commission on Health Care Certification (ICHCC) has created and is recognized as being the certification body for this high niche specialty area of Elder Care Management, to be available to professionals, who have successfully completed the 60-hour professional online educational program provided by the University of Florida, Division of Continuing Education. Please note that the University of Florida’s program prepares professionals to sit for the international certification exam for Elder Care Managers. What can a Certified Elder Care Manager do for you?
• Provide counseling and support for the elder population
• Act as a liaison, overseeing and/or implementing the recommended plan of care
• Offer assistance for care givers
• Provide crisis intervention
• Inform elder care consumers and their families about the services provided by the Elder Care Manager
• Educate payors and regulators, physicians, attorneys and other providers about improved patient outcomes through the services of an Elder Care Manager
• Some Elder Care Managers provide family or individual therapy, finance management, conservator or guardianship services, depending upon their background, expertise and licensure.
• The Elder Care Manager is familiar with the appropriate state and federal agencies handling employment practices and recommends that the elderly client use the appropriate legal and trust/accounting professionals to ensure the applicable laws are followed.
• The Elder Care Manager will practice in accordance with the professional organization’s establish standards of practice guidelines
• When developing a plan of care, the Elder Cared Manager will make Referrals to individual providers, businesses, agencies or facilities that can Deliver the needed service(s).
• The Elder Care Manager may actually implement a plan of care format using A multi-dimensional approach (within state guidelines) to achieve maximum results.
